It is safe to say that the Google Chrome browser is the most popular in the world, and the development team wants users to be able to work with it on any device with the maximum level of comfort. For example, many of the browser’s regular users are asking the development team for new additional features that improve overall performance on their mobile devices, including tablets and foldable smartphones. And to meet these demands, the Google team decided to invest their time and effort into the development of features aimed at multitasking on large displays.
Naturally, multitasking tools are also available on smartphones, but the developers have focused on implementing the feature for the devices on which it will be used most often. Accordingly, Chrome developers first focused on the ability to run multiple browser windows at the same time – for this they used the taskbar from Android 12L, studied how multi-window mode works on devices with a large display, and then optimized the gadget’s memory usage for stable and smooth operation. As a result, Google found that people are comfortable using up to five browser windows at once on one large screen, so the app has been updated to support this capability.

Another development team has greatly simplified the use of this feature by adding a label “New Window” in the menu of the mobile browser. And, unsurprisingly, the more visible display of the new feature in the browser interface allowed for a significant increase in the frequency of multitasking – Google said that owners of devices with a large display began to use multi-window mode 18 times more often. It’s worth noting that this feature may well be called new, but the Chrome team has already noted that multitasking in the browser on tablets and foldable devices is used 42% more often than on conventional smartphones with support for the same feature.
At the same time, users themselves respond quite positively about this innovation by publishing reviews on the Chrome application:
“This is an amazing app! I can split the screen, switch between tabs and more. It can even play many video games. I give this app five stars.”
The developers have already made a plan to further improve the browser on large screens, so there should be more of these features in the foreseeable future.
