The removal of debris from the collapse of the roof of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Conception, in Morro da Conceição, in the northern part of Recife, has been completed by the city government. The work, expected to last 30 days, was finished on Wednesday (11), ahead of schedule.
In total, 12 dumpsters of non-reusable waste were taken to the landfill, in addition to 20 tons of materials that will be reused. With the completion of the services, the municipal administration will hand over the Sanctuary so that the parish can take care of the reconstruction.
Recife Civil Defense will carry out an inspection to assess the release of use of the site, this Thursday (12).
The head of the Recife Operations Center (COP), Anderson Soares, highlighted the efforts of the teams and the collaboration with the parish to enable more sustainable work.
“We removed the rubble very carefully, through a specialized company, and we collaborated with the Church to facilitate the sale of reusable materials,” he said.
Tribute to workers
On the morning of this Thursday (12), a thanksgiving will be held at the Sanctuary, with the presence of workers, religious people and authorities, in gratitude for the completion of the work.
The rector of the Sanctuary, Father Emerson Borges, will lead the moment with prayers, songs and blessings.
If Civil Defense allows access, the ceremony must take place inside the Sanctuary; otherwise, it will be held at the foot of the image of the Immaculate Conception of Morro.
