CIA chief heads to Cairo for Gaza talks

The head of the CIA will travel to Cairo this weekend for talks on a ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, a territory under siege and bombardment by Israel for nearly six months, US media reported today. Washington announces this new effort after pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, Thursday, to conclude a ceasefire agreement “without delay” against the background of pressure from the international community in the face of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. The director of the American intelligence service, Bill Burns, will meet, as APE-MBE reports, his Israeli counterpart, the head of the Mossad, David Barnea, as well as officials from Egypt and Qatar, the New York Times writes.
