Ciao Salumeria Italiana is the perfect destination for hot days in Curitiba

There are few places in Curitiba where you can drink quality wine at tables facing the sidewalk, enjoying a beautiful plate of cold cuts or first-class antipasti.

A Ciao Salumeria Italiana emerged in 2020 as the result of a desire by its owner, Paolo Paccagnella, to bring a piece of Italy to Curitiba. Initially it only functioned as an emporium and wine cellar, bringing the best of charcuterie, cheeses, wines and emporium from Italy and Brazil. After a few months, noticing customers' desire for hot dishes, Paolo decided to transform CIAO into a trattoria as well.

Tagliatelle ai Frutti di Mare

Self-taught, Paolo has been attracted to gastronomy since he was a child, and has a predilection for seafood, which is evident in the delicious Tagliatelle ai Frutti di Mare (R$69), which can also include Sugo di Pomodoro (R$75), in Insalata di Frutti di Mare (R$ 49) and the unmissable Panino di Polvo (R$ 69), which features hamburger bread toasted in Sicilian lemon butter, octopus, avocado with garlic and tomato confit, sour cream, sardines, coriander and Sicilian lemon zest.

When you're feeling hungry, go for the highly approved Tagliatelle alla Carbonara (R$65), or Pappardelle al Ragu di Ossobuco (R$65). If you don't want pasta, there are these two dishes with polenta too.

If the intention is just something to snack on while enjoying a bottle of wine, there is no shortage of options. The Bresaola Carpaccio (R$69) is a riot of flavor. To share, the Burrata with Prosciutto Crudo, Fig & Honey (R$85) is excellent, as are the cold cuts. At “Un Pezzo D'Italia” (R$ 99) you will find 3 cheeses and 3 Italian cold cuts accompanied by caponata, sardella and a portion of focaccia. There is also an option with Brazilian products, which on the day of my visit had: Queijo Bello (MG), Cuesta (Pardinho/SP) and Swiss Alpine Herbs (Palmeira/PR); Charcuterie: Speck (Mandirituba/PR), Bacon (Curitiba/PR) and Napolitan Salame (Mandirituba/PR), accompanied by fig jelly with balsamic, tomato confit and a portion of focaccia.

To enjoy it alone, be sure to order the Panino di Mortadela (R$42), which includes warm artisanal focaccia, Italian mortadella, stracciatella (creamy part of the burrata), pistachios and basil pesto.

Panino di Mortadella

As a wine bar, there are 8 options of great labels by the glass, such as Cata Chile Chardonnay, 2021 (R$ 40 / 150ml) and Peverella Licoroso Era dos Ventos, 2019 (R$ 39 / 50ml). If your thirst asks for more, the menu of sparkling wines, white wines, orange wines, rosé wines and red wines, all national or Italian, will satisfy even the most demanding palates.

Don't like wine? No problem. There are classic drinks and traditional and special beers, such as the Cuvée Trilha & Vivente Blend Saison 2021 (R$ 159 / 750ml) or the Mamangava Lata Cervejaria Trilha (R$ 29 / 350ml) – a beautiful sour with passion fruit.

To take home or order for delivery, Ciao has a surprising selection of national and Italian cheeses and charcuterie, as well as seafood charcuterie from the AMAR Project, antipasti, jellies, honeys, dulce de leche, sauces, olive oils, butter, pasta and rice for risotto.
