Star Natalie Portman has revealed that she is grateful that cinema is changing among younger viewers. In an interview, she also shared her perception regarding the film industry today.
“What was surprising was the decline of cinema as primary form of entertainment . It feels much more niche now ,” Portman said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “If you ask someone my kids' age about movie stars, they don't know anyone compared to YouTube stars or something like that,” he added.
The Oscar-winning actress for “Black Swan” also shared in the chat that there is a certain liberation in making your art not a popular art.
“You can really explore what’s interesting to you. It becomes much more a matter of passion than commerce. And it is also interesting to be careful that this does not become something elitist. I think all of these art forms, when they become less popular, you have to start thinking, OK, who are we doing this for more?”
Natalie Portman recently debuted in “The Secret” alongside Julianne Moore and Charles Melton. For Vanity Fair, the actress also revealed that Hollywood is now “two-faced fashion”.
“[É] incredible too, because there was also this democratization of creativity where the gatekeepers have been demoted and everyone can bring out incredible things and talents,” she said.
“And the accessibility is incredible. If you lived in a small town, you might not have had access to big art cinema when I was growing up. Now it seems that if you have an Internet connection, you can access anything”, he adds finally.
