Organization CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan), which includes Japanese manufacturers of photographic equipment, has published another report on the state of the digital camera market. In comparison with the previous one, it is supplemented with data for May. CIPA statistics for May show that the situation on the digital camera market has improved markedly over the year. 711,362 cameras were shipped in May. Although this figure is lower than in April, the year-on-year growth was 92.4%.
In the segment of cameras with interchangeable lenses, growth is even greater. During the month, 459,408 cameras were sold, which is 114.2% more than a year ago.
Cameras with fixed lenses were sold in May 251 954 units. This is 62.3% more than in May last year. In general, the situation in the segment of cameras with fixed lenses looks more stable than last year, which is clearly seen on the graph.
It should be noted that in the segment of cameras with interchangeable lenses, mirrorless models now account for 55.8% of shipments in quantitative terms and 75.7% in monetary terms. Not surprisingly, manufacturers are switching to more lucrative products.
