“It is necessary to put an end once and for all to this historical excrescence that the top of the Armed Forces assigns itself a tutelary role over Brazil’s democracy, over the Brazilian Republic. This has to be revoked once and for all in the process of training the military because it is not out of malice, they were trained that way, they are still trained that way today,” he said.
The statement was made in an interview with CBN radio. Ciro was responding to a question from journalist Miriam Leitão about criticism by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and part of the military of the electoral process. According to the pedetista, it is unlikely that a military coup will take place in the country due to a lack of support from sectors of society.
He attributed the problems in the formation and promotion of the Armed Forces to an omission by previous governments and by “Brazilian democrats” who, according to him, were not careful to carry out “a process of change in dialogue with the military forces”.
“One of my commitments is to build a Defense structure on professional, sophisticated and modern bases from a technological point of view”, he said.

Asked about the deaths of indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips in the Amazon, Ciro blamed the Bolsonaro government for “destroying the operational capacity of the Armed Forces” in the region.
According to him, the military does not have the manpower, funds and technology “to manage a huge stretch of dry border”, which ended up transforming the area where the deaths took place into a territory managed by a “crime holding company”.
