The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, explained the need for Brazilian cities to become more adapted to the effects caused by the climate crisis. According to the minister, “we have a situation in which cities are becoming completely impermeable and this is a perfect opportunity for the suffering of the majority of the population”.

The statement was given to the CNN team, at the premiere of “CNN Sustainability”, hosted by anchor Marcio Gomes and by the climate and environmental analyst, Pedro Cortes.
The program gives a voice to the greatest experts on the subject and, also with special reports, shows various solutions adopted in Brazil and around the world to accelerate the necessary transformations for the planet.
The episode mapped out the needs faced by Brazil, especially in light of the recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul. The event was recalled by Côrtes as an example of a warning that urban spaces need to become resilient spaces, “because changes are already happening and cities need to deal with this.”

In conversation with Márcio Gomes and Pedro Côrtes, the “CNN Sustainability ” was attended by Bruna Pavani, a researcher at the International Institute for Sustainability. The oceanographer also pointed out that cities need to have integrated and strategic planning.
“We must always think about nature. It needs to be the solution, that is, they need to be solutions based on nature,” highlighting the installation of elevated gardens in buildings and houses, permeable forests on slopes, among other situations.
