Restrictions on entry into its territory are being prepared to be relaxed by China for citizens of certain countries, including the United States, provided they have received a Chinese coronavirus vaccine.
The Chinese border has been closed to the majority of foreigners for a year in order to prevent the recurrence of the deadly pandemic.
The Chinese embassy in the US announced on Monday (15/3) that it will start processing requests for visa “Candidates who have received a Chinese vaccine against COVID-19”. However, no Chinese vaccine is yet available in the United States.
The repetition of the procedure concerns visas for work, business travel and “humanitarian reasons”, such as for divorced families.
According to the announcement and as broadcast by the Athens News Agency, the procedure concerns the candidates who have received the two doses of vaccine or only at least 14 days before the application for a visa.
However, quarantine remains mandatory for up to three weeks after their arrival in Chinese territory.
Chinese embassies in several countries, including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Italy and Sri Lanka, have issued similar announcements.
However no Chinese vaccine not available in some of these countries where this procedure is offered, such as India or Italy, which limits the scope of the Chinese Communication.
Asked how travelers from a country where Chinese vaccines are not available could benefit from the measure, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Chao Lizian declined to comment.
