The Rio de Janeiro City Council approved a bill that requires public and private hospitals to offer nursing professionals a place to rest during working hours.
The proposal extends to nurses the same rights that doctors have in relation to breaks during shifts.
PL 2293/2023 was approved in the second discussion on Tuesday (24) and will still go to the final draft, before being sanctioned by Mayor Eduardo Paes.
According to the text of the bill, resting areas for nurses must be ventilated, provide thermal and acoustic comfort and have sanitary facilities.
Nurse Suellen Oliveira reports that, in seven years of profession, she has already experienced the situation of not having a place to rest during her shift:
“I worked a 12-hour night shift and had no place to sleep. I felt like crap.”
If the law is approved, rest areas will be exclusive to nurses, except in cases of inspections or inspections carried out with authorization from the hospital unit.
