A São Paulo City Hall did not authorize Roberto Carlos's special birthday show which would take place at Arena Pacaembu this Friday (19).
In a statement, the city hall said that it took the decision “after proving a lack of safety during a joint inspection by the Fire Department and Contru, a municipal body that certifies the safety of buildings”.
According to the municipal administration, irregularities were found such as obstructed and incomplete emergency exits, non-existent escape route signage, inoperative pressurized stairs, emergency exit doors without anti-panic bars and an inoperative fire detection system.
In the report, the Fire Department also states that “not even a Technical Project for Temporary Occupation in Permanent Buildings (PTOTEP) was presented, containing the appropriate fire safety measures, thus in total non-compliance with what is contained in article 27 of the Safety Regulations against Fire in Buildings and Risk Areas”.
“Representatives of the company responsible for the Pacaembu concession also followed the tests in which it was found that there were no conditions for holding the event,” added the city hall.
However, sought by CNN, the company responsible for Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, Concessionaire Allegra Pacaembu, informed that the show will take place anyway .
“The dealership Allegra Pacaembu informs that the Roberto Carlos show is ongoing. It reiterates that all regulations in force in the city are being complied with and there is no reason for the event not to be held,” the company said in a statement.
“Regarding the Fire Department’s letter, the concessionaire informs that it will provide all necessary responses to the corporation, demonstrating that it complies with the legislation for a temporary event,” added the company.
According to the concessionaire, this Friday's show will be the first event hosted by Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, which is in a “gradual process of reopening the complex”.
“It will be an experience in construction, providing participants with close contact with the renovation, modernization and restoration works, which are continuing at a fast pace”, he says in a statement.

The show takes place on Roberto Carlos' birthday and marks the beginning of the “Eu Ofereço Flores” tour.
