City Hall says it awaits enel to pruning more than 3,000 trees in SP

Amid heavy rains, São Paulo City Hall counts 3,203 trees with pending pruning by the Enel concessionaire, responsible for the distribution and supply of energy in the city.

In a note to CNN the agency states that it does not perform pruning or removal of trees that are in contact with the power grid for safety reasons and opens requests for the service to be done by the concessionaire.

Pruning or removal of trees, in case of compromise of the structure, are considered necessary for Avoid disorders in the city amidst storms as a power outage and even deaths, as happened on Wednesday (12).

The 43 -year -old taxi driver Elton Ferreira de Oliveira died after a large tree fell over the car he was driving in downtown São Paulo. During the rain, 170,000 customers were without electricity.

Questioned by CNN Enel states that the distributor has about 2,400 ongoing offices, as agreed at weekly meetings with the City Hall. About 8% of offices are out of time.

This year, the concessionaire says it made 47,000 pruning in the city of São Paulo – an increase in 226% compared to the first two months of the previous year.

In this Wednesday’s storm (12), the Fire Department received 217 calls for tree falls in the capital and Greater São Paulo.

The Municipal Secretariat of Subprefectures (SMSUB) reports that 129 teams work in the city for trees management. In 2024, there were 163,808 pruned trees and 13,341 removed by the organ.

In January and February 2025, there were 23,590 pruning trees and 2,835 removed, according to the city.
