City Hall sends Uber to suspend mototaxi service in São Paulo

The company claims that the app’s new mobility option has safety features for partner users and motorcyclists.

“At the request of the mayor, the Municipal Committee for Road Use (CMUV) will contact the company to request the immediate suspension of the activity, in addition to the due clarifications by Uber, since the company did not inform the São Paulo City Hall. Paulo about the beginning of the operation of this mobility option”, he said in a statement.

The orientation, according to the municipality, is that the service be suspended until a meeting is held between the parties to understand the dynamics of the activity and carry out studies and analyzes for the feasibility of implementing the passenger transport service by motorcycle.

“Before landing in the two largest Brazilian cities, we spent more than two years studying the use of the product in different places and we evaluated the behavior that Uber Moto had in different Brazilian municipalities”, said Luciana Ceccato, director of marketing for Uber in Brazil.

According to her, in addition to routine displacements, there is a constant use of arrival and departure stations and terminals for buses, trains and subways. “This shows that this is a product that also complements the displacement of users who use the public transport network”, says Luciana.

Also according to Uber, all trips made – including Uber Moto – include, among other measures, background checks on partners and give users the possibility to share the license plate, driver identification and location with their contacts. on the map in real time.

The report entered the application and the same ride that cost around R$ 25 with UberX, between the neighborhood of Vila Constância and Metrô Carrão, both in the east zone of São Paulo, for Uber Moto the estimate was R$ 17 .

To register in the Uber application and drive in the new modality, the partner motorcyclist needs to have a definitive National Driver’s License (CNH) with observation of remunerated activity (EAR).
