The spin-off of the award-winning Brazilian film “God's city” (2002) was scheduled to premiere on Max. The six-episode series arrives on the HBO streaming service in August.
The production is set two decades after the events of the film, taking as its starting point the work of a photographer from Buscapé. In the plot, the community devastated by the dispute between drug dealers, police and militiamen brings a perspective of collective resistance.
The series features excerpts from the film in flashbacks, to reconstruct memories and affective memories of the protagonists.
Names like Alexandre Rodrigues , Thiago Martins , Roberta Rodrigues , Sabrina Rosa , Kiko Marques It is Edson Oliveira return to the universe created by Paulo Lins. In addition, new talents from communities in Rio de Janeiro, such as Cidade de Deus, Vidigal and Mangueira, make up the cast.
The series is produced by O2 Filmes and has Aly Muritiba in the direction. Fernando Meirelles who directs the film alongside Kátia Lund, is also involved in the project.
