The city of Rio de Janeiro has 70,000 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 with an expiration date. According to the Municipal Health Department, due to the daily flow of people at the immunization stations, the expectation is that the immunizers are applied before expiration.
In response to a recommendation from the Government of the State of Rio, the campaign for the fourth dose, or second booster, was expanded to the population aged 18 years and over.
From this Thursday (28), adults who have received the first booster for more than four months can go to the posts to complete the vaccination schedule.
late doses
Almost 3.3 million people are overdue for vaccine doses in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Of this total, approximately 544,000 did not complete the primary vaccination schedule, having received only the first dose.
In addition, the city has about 1.75 million people who did not receive the first booster dose and 1 million individuals who did not return for the fourth dose. To ensure maximum protection against coronavirus infection, it is necessary to complete the two-dose vaccination schedule for the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Coronavac vaccines.
Of the entire adult population, 99.9% took the first dose or a single dose, 99.8% are on both doses and 73% with the booster. Among children aged three and four, adherence is lower. Since the beginning of the application of Coronavac, on July 15, after authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), about 29,000 children have been vaccinated. Around 132,000 children are eligible for vaccination.
To receive the immunizing agent at a health center, it is sufficient to present CPF and proof of vaccination of previous doses. However, people with flu-like symptoms should not receive the vaccine before being tested for Covid-19.
