City of Rio extends 2nd booster dose against Covid for people over 50

The city of Rio de Janeiro and the capitals Campo Grande and Macapá expanded the vaccination of the second booster dose against Covid-19 for those aged 50 or over. According to survey of CNN the 4th dose is also already applied by the Federal District and in three other states: Amazonas, Mato Grosso do Sul and Piauí.

On Thursday (2), the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said that the portfolio will include people from 50 years of age in the recommendation for the application of the second booster dose of vaccines against the disease.

Until then, the indication was for those who are 60 years old or older and for immunosuppressed people. To be vaccinated, however, the interval must be at least four months from the last dose.

Accession in the capital of Rio de Janeiro

This Friday, the patio of the Píndaro de Carvalho Rodrigues Municipal Health Center, in Gávea, Rio’s South Zone, was full of people in search of an additional dose of the vaccine.

“It’s very important. We have to be vaccinated so we don’t pass it on to anyone and don’t catch it too”, said doorman Paulo Roberto Santos to CNN .

Sandra Milone, a physical education teacher, also sought the second booster dose this Friday.

“I’m feeling relieved because I’m doing good for myself and for others, especially for the elderly, because I work with them”, celebrates Sandra.

Rio will have D-Day of vaccination this Saturday

This Saturday (4), more than 450 vaccination posts will be open for the population of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the capital’s Health Secretary, Rodrigo Prado, the awareness campaign will provide vaccines against Covid-19 and flu vaccines.

Despite having stock of the other vaccines against Covid-19, Prado warns about the shortage of doses at Pfizer, whose last batch received by the city was on May 6, a total of 54,000 doses.

“We hope that the Ministry of Health will send new doses of Pfizer, as the age range for the 2nd booster dose has been increasing. We have already sent several letters requesting it,” he says.

THE CNN consulted the Ministry of Health, which responded in a note that “there is no pending Pfizer vaccines for the state of Rio de Janeiro”. The folder, however, stated that a new shipment will be sent next week.

Note from the Ministry of Health
