City of Rio has the highest number of ICU admissions since October 2021

With the increase in cases of Covid-19 caused by the arrival of the Ômicron variant, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro already counts, until this Monday (17), 646 hospitalizations for the disease in the public network. This Sunday (16), there were 500 hospitalizations in total.

According to the city hall panel, this Sunday, there were 294 hospitalized in infirmary beds. This is the highest number since August 29, 2021, when the city added 322 hospitalizations.

A total of 206 patients were admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds. This is the highest amount since October 7th of last year. The municipality of Rio has 25 people in line waiting for a vacancy and the occupancy rate is 60%.

On Saturday, the capital recorded another record of Covid-19 cases, with about 30,000 people. The 14 testing stations in the municipality have served more than 100,000 people a day. Despite the growth in cases and hospitalizations, the moving average of deaths in the last 7 days is one.

Last week, the City of Rio asked the Ministry of Health to reopen beds in federal hospitals. However, it still awaits a return.

According to the municipal secretary of Health of Rio, Daniel Soranz, currently the federal network has 941 closed beds.
