City of Rio says that vaccine recap will only include 11-year-olds

The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (SMS) informed, this Tuesday (18), that it will keep the recap of the vaccination against Covid-19 only for children aged 11 years.

In a note, SMS said that the decision to delay immunization – which was scheduled to apply dose to children aged 10 and 11 until next weekend – is due to the number of insufficient pediatric doses sent by the Ministry of Health.

“Only with the arrival of new shipments, will it be possible to advance the vaccination schedule for 10-year-old girls and boys”, says the note.

The capital received 33,950 pediatric doses from Pfizer this Tuesday.

The municipal secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, had considered the possibility of delay.

The immunization schedule for children in Rio de Janeiro started on Monday (18) with 11-year-old girls. This Tuesday it was the boys’ turn and the repechage takes place on Wednesday (19).

On the first day of vaccination, Pfizer’s immunizer included 18,000 children from the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The account includes 11-year-old girls and 5- to 11-year-olds with permanent disabilities or comorbidities who have gone to more than 200 gas stations in the city.
