City of São Paulo offers rapid Covid tests in all healthcare facilities

The City of São Paulo begins, this Wednesday (5), the realization of 300 thousand rapid tests of antigen in the screening sector of Basic Health Units (UBSs) to identify positive cases of Covid-19.

According to the city, the measure aims to carry out a survey of the proportion of cases of influenza and Covid-19 among people who have respiratory symptoms in the city.

Rapid tests for influenza can be carried out at UBSs, Emergency Care Units (UPAs), Ambulatory Medical Assistance (AMAs), emergency services and emergency rooms in the city of São Paulo.

The city directs that individuals with acute respiratory signs, who present at least two of the symptoms (fever, chills, sore throat, headache, cough, runny nose, olfactory or taste disturbances), take the rapid test.

If the test for Covid-19 is positive, the person will be instructed to collect the sample for molecular diagnosis (RT-PCR). Subsequently, these samples will be sent to the Butantan Institute, for genomic sequencing and identification of the circulating variant.

If negative for Covid-19, the individual must undergo the rapid test for the influenza virus, which causes the flu.

The respiratory tag helps to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 and the flu. Measures include wearing a mask properly, covering your nose and mouth, keeping away from other people, covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and washing your hands regularly with soap and water.
