City of São Paulo will start childhood vaccination with Coronavac on Saturday (22)

The City of São Paulo will start, on Saturday (22), the vaccination of children between 6 and 11 years old with Coronavac. The estimated audience of the age group is 919,553 people.

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) authorized, this Thursday (20), the use of the immunizing agent for children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years.

The municipality received 801,560 doses from the state government, which were delivered to the Immunobiological Storage and Distribution Center (Cadi).

On Friday (21), the vaccines will be sent to the Posts of Storage and Distribution of Immunobiologicals (Padis) and then distributed to 205 vaccination posts.

For children aged 5 years and immunosuppressed, doses of Pfizer will be given exclusively. Anvisa’s technical team indicated gaps in Coronavac’s effectiveness and safety studies for the public and did not carry out the authorization.

“The release of the Coronavac immunizer and the arrival of this batch will allow us to move forward more quickly with childhood vaccination in the city of São Paulo. This week, we started vaccinating children with comorbidities and disabilities with Pfizer’s pediatric immunizer and now we can expand the immunization to the entire children’s public”, says the municipal secretary of Health, Edson Aparecido.

The state of São Paulo has already started vaccinating the public with Coronavac this Thursday. Eleven children were immunized in a symbolic ceremony at the Brigadeiro Faria Lima State School, in São Paulo.

Governor João Doria (PSDB) announced that another hundred children would also receive the vaccine on site and in the city of São Bernardo do Campo, in the greater ABC region.
