THE São Paulo City Hall starts this Monday (27) the application of the 4th dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 for the public over 40 years of age. The only requirement is to have taken the first booster dose at least four months ago.
The expectation of Municipal Health Department (SMS) is to immunize about 500,000 people in this age group. In all, 1,020,863 people aged between 40 and 49 are eligible to receive the additional dose.
The population can take the vaccines in Basic Health Units (UBSs) in the units of Ambulatory Medical Assistance (AMAs/UBS) and in the so-called mega service stations.
On Wednesday (22) of last week, the city of Sao Paulo started the application of the second booster in the population over 45 years.
City residents aged 50 and over, with a high degree of immunosuppression, can also receive the third additional dose, or fifth dose, if they received the second booster dose at least four months ago.
“The city of São Paulo has gradually expanded immunization to new groups in order to reinforce vaccine coverage against Covid-19. The advance of vaccination results in the reduction of hospitalizations for severe disease and that is why it is essential that all eligible people take booster doses, it is individual and collective protection “, said the municipal secretary of Health, Luiz Carlos Zamarco.
Vaccination coverage
Until last Friday, the capital of São Paulo had applied 32,902,147 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, of which more than 11 million were intended for the first dose, more than 11 million with second doses and about 364 thousand single doses (Janssen ). 7.6 million additional first doses and 1.9 million second booster doses were also given.
While the percentage of adults, that is, people over 18 years of age, who received the first two doses of the immunizing agent exceeds 100%, the booster dose was applied to 80.4% of this population.
The second additional dose was applied to 52.9% of people over 50 years of age.
