The Civil Defense of Santa Catarina issued warnings of flooding and landslides in some parts of the state for this weekend. Precipitation gained strength on the coast of Santa Catarina, especially in the southern region, where accumulated volumes close to 100 mm were recorded in the early hours of Friday (12).
The rains in the region persist this Saturday (13) and Sunday (14), and may reach areas close to the state's coast, such as the middle and lower Itajaà Valley. Saturday night and Sunday morning are expected to be marked by intense periods of rain.
According to Civil Defense, accumulated volumes of 150 to 200 mm are expected on the coast and nearby areas, with occasional amounts of around 250 mm until this Sunday. In the Planaltos and Alto Vale do Itajaà regions, volumes are estimated to be between 50 and 75 mm.
With these volumes, there is a risk of flooding in the river basins of the regions of Greater Florianópolis, Baixo Vale do ItajaÃ, and the North and South coasts. These areas present a risk of floods.
In relation to landslides, the risk is very high in the mountainous region of the south coast and Greater Florianópolis from this Saturday afternoon and on Sunday due to the accumulation of rain predicted since Thursday (11). Despite this, all parts of the coast can suffer earth movements.
The Planalto Sul, Norte and Alto Vale do Itajaà have a moderate risk of landslides. The weather in the region is expected to remain rainy until next Tuesday (16).
