Civil Defense of RS confirms third death due to storm

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed, on Sunday night (19), the third death as a result of the rain between Friday (17) and the early hours of Saturday (18). The victim is a man who was inside a vehicle that was swept away by water in the city of Vila Flores.

The other two deaths recorded are of women who were buried in their homes, in Gramado. As of the last update, there are 63 people injured, 2,653 homeless and 7,527 displaced. In total, 194 thousand were affected.

The Military Fire Brigade, the Military Brigade, the Brazilian Army, the regional and municipal Protection coordinators and the Civil Defense are at the forefront of rescue and search actions. Furthermore, corporations are responsible for relocating residents from risk areas.

Gym collapses during windstorm

The state of Rio Grande do Sul had already recorded one death last week due to rain in the city of Giruá. The victim was a 24-year-old woman who was in a sports gym that collapsed due to heavy rain in the region.

The Fire Department stated that the structure was destroyed due to strong winds during the storm that took over the city. Around 60 people were injured, with two of them in serious condition.
