The state of São Paulo is expected to record heavy rains in all regions of São Paulo between this Thursday (7) and Friday (8). The alert was issued by the State Civil Defense this Wednesday (6).
According to the agency, accumulated precipitation levels may vary between tall and very high . Find out which cities to target below:
- Highs: regions of Marília and Presidente Prudente;
- Very high: capital of São Paulo, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Vale do Ribeira, regions of Itapeva, Sorocaba, Campinas, Baixada Santista, north coast, Vale do Paraíba, São José do Rio Preto, Araçatuba, Barretos, Franca and Ribeirão Preto.
The regions of Bauru and Araraquara (SP) are highlighted for greater attention, where the rains will be even more intense and may be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind, with the possibility of hail.
The phenomenon is caused by the passage of a cold front along the coast of the Southeast region, which will create conditions for rain showers, in addition to intense storms.
Starting at 8am this Thursday (7), the Government of São Paulo installs a crisis office to guarantee and coordinate rapid responses to the population in cases of emergencies caused by rain.
The Government highlights that electricity and water supply distributors will have a representative in the cabinet, which allows for more agile communication and more effective actions to monitor storms.
Recommendations
Civil Defense cites some recommendations in case of heavy rain. See below:
- Avoid open places, such as beaches, football fields and parking lots;
- Avoid being close to tall and isolated objects, such as trees, poles, water tanks and kiosks;
- When it rains, keep away from appliances and objects connected to the electrical network, such as refrigerators, stoves and TVs;
- Avoid bathing during the storm;
- In case of strong winds, be careful with falling trees, poles, wires and traffic lights;
- Do not challenge the force of the water, do not try to overcome a flood or walk through flooded areas;
- If you are in a hillside area, watch for signs of ground movement, such as cracks in walls, leaning trees and posts, and muddy water;
- If a live wire falls on your vehicle, stay inside your car and call emergency services.
Cold front
A new cold front arrives in São Paulo this Thursday (7) and is expected to cause storms across the state, according to Climatempo.
The Climate Emergency Management Center of the City of São Paulo (CGE) predicts, for this Thursday (7), moderate or heavy rains and electrical discharges. The temperature in the city can vary between 20°C and 26°C.
On Friday (8), the alert remains with a forecast of large volumes of rain and winds of up to 70km/h. The minimum temperature is 18°C and the maximum is 21°C.
The expected accumulated in the state of São Paulo in the coming days is 145 mm until Friday (8), which exceeds the average for the month of November, which is 143.9 mm.
