The National Civil Defense recognized, this Monday (21), the emergency situation in another 16 cities in Brazil affected by natural disasters. The ordinance with the federal recognitions was published in the Official Gazette.
Municipalities in the states of Bahia, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Piauí, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte and Santa Catarina are on the list.
Of the 16 cities, six are going through a period of drought. They are: Anagé and Ponto Novo, in Bahia, Lajedo and Vertente do Lério, in Pernambuco, Itainópolis, in Piauí, and São José do Campestre, in Pernambuco. Malhada de Pedras, in Bahia, is facing drought, which is an absence of rain even longer than the dry season.
In the state of Paraná, Palmital and Altamira do Paraná registered windstorms, while Espigão Alto do Iguaçu suffered from heavy rains. Alpercata, in Minas Gerais, and Canelinha, Marema and Passos Maia, in Santa Catarina, also recorded heavy rains.
Finally, the Minas Gerais municipalities of Antônio Carlos and São Gonçalo do Sapucaí were hit by hail.

Cities in an emergency situation or state of public calamity recognized by the National Civil Defense must request funds from the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) to assist the affected population.
Several actions contribute to relief, assistance to victims, restoration of essential services and reconstruction of destroyed or damaged infrastructure. The request must be made through the Integrated Disaster Information System.
Based on the information, the National Civil Defense technical team evaluates the goals and values requested. With the approval, an ordinance is published in the Official Gazette with the amount to be released.
