Civil guard who killed robbery victim in Greater SP is dismissed

The city hall of Diadema (SP) reported this Monday afternoon (13) that it removed from duty the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) agent who killed a 21-year-old young man who was being robbed last Saturday (10).

The municipal administration began an internal investigation, together with the Internal Affairs Department, to analyze the circumstances of the incident that led to the death of student Carlos Eduardo Nascimento, who was buried this Monday in Barueri, also in Greater São Paulo.

The guard must remain away, as standard procedure, until the incident is clarified, according to the city hall. The agent, whose identity was not revealed, was on his way to work, on Rodovia dos Imigrantes, and was carrying an institution weapon when he witnessed the criminals trying to steal. He shot and hit the victim.

The case occurred last Saturday (11) at km 18 of Rodovia dos Imigrantes, in the Diadema region, in Greater São Paulo. The municipal civil guard witnessed the criminals trying to steal a motorcycle.

Upon noticing the action, he reacted and fired. Carlos Eduardo, who was the victim of the attempted robbery, was hit and succumbed to his injuries. He died at the scene.

The two criminals, aged 24 and 30, were also hit and taken to the Diadema Municipal Hospital. One of them was discharged and charged with attempted theft and vehicle seizure. The other man remains hospitalized under police escort.

The motorcycle used by the robbers had previously been stolen and was returned to the owner.

In a note to CNN the GCM of Diadema said that it “expresses its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim, in this moment of immense pain”.

“The Corporation will spare no effort to provide due support to the victim’s family and to ensure that the appropriate measures are taken fairly and quickly,” states the GCM.
