Civil police officers from the Police Station for the Repression of Organized Criminal Actions and Special Inquiries (DRACO) carried out an operation, this Wednesday (22/01), against a group of militiamen who operate in the region of the community of Manguariba, in Paciência, West Zone of River.
Three criminals were arrested. Two of them were injured when they reacted to the police approach. They were taken to the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital, in Realengo. One of them succumbed to his injuries and died.
According to the DRACO delegate, the operation aimed to check information that militiamen in the region were using empty properties as hiding places.
“The leader of this militia is known as Major. I arrested him about 6 months ago. Carrying a pistol. He was released and returned to the same activity and we are after him again”, said Dr. William Rodrigues.
Two rifles, two 9mm pistols, 5.56 caliber rifle and AK-47 ammunition and tactical clothing were seized. Two stolen vehicles were recovered.
The prisoners were charged with armed criminal organization, illegal possession of a firearm for restricted use, reception and attempted murder.
One day before this operation, DRACO had already gone to the area and arrested two militiamen linked to a rival group to the one operating in the Manguariba community. On that occasion, weapons used by the group were seized, reinforcing the fight against criminal organizations operating in the locality.
Investigations continue with the aim of dismantling the gangs.
