Civil Police arrest nine people for drug trafficking inside a RJ prison

Nine people were arrested this Thursday afternoon (23), in Campos, in the North of the state of Rio de Janeiro, accused of drug trafficking inside the Carlos Tinoco da Fonseca prison.

Among the prisoners are four employees of a food company, which provides services to the penitentiary unit. The other five are detainees, who will respond for a new process, now for drug trafficking and association with trafficking, as well as professionals detained in the company.

In the action, coordinated by delegates Pedro Emílio Braga and Madeleine Farias, from the 146th Police Station (DP), four arrest warrants were served at the headquarters of the company ComRio and another five warrants at the Carlos Tinoco da Fonseca prison.

In searches of five cells at the unit, a large amount of drug material was also found, already packed, which, according to investigations, would be sold to other detainees.

Five search and seizure warrants were also fulfilled.

The investigations began with the seizure of twelve marijuana tablets on Saturday afternoon (11) inside the juice drums of the ComRio company, at Presídio Carlos Tinoco da Fonseca, in Campos dos Goytacazes, in Norte Flumiense.

The company, responsible for supplying the drinks to the Department of Penitentiary Administration, informed the Civil Police about the narcotics. According to the Police, the company has collaborated with investigations and is investigating the conduct of the employees involved.

According to police chief Pedro Emílio Braga, holder of the 146th DP, during the investigations the Civil Police analyzed more than 9 hours of images from the internal circuits of the company and the prison and, from the material proving the crimes, asked the arrests to Rio de Janeiro judiciary.

“From the apprehension of the drums, we started to monitor the actions of those investigated and resorted to media files to prove their participation. It is important to point out that there is no evidence of the involvement of criminal agents and that the company has collaborated with the investigations”, says the delegate.

In a note sent to CNN, ComRio says that, upon noting the “suspicious activities”, the company “proactively and proactively called the civil police”, and has collaborated with the investigations.

Read ComRio’s note in full:

We clarify that on December 11, upon identifying suspicious activities, our company promptly and proactively called the civil police and, as publicly acknowledged by the responsible delegate, we have been fully and unrestrictedly following and cooperating with ongoing investigations.

We believe that more detailed information should be obtained directly from the civil police so as not to jeopardize ongoing operations.
