Civil Police assembles task force with 200 police officers in Petrópolis

The head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro set up an emergency operation with around 200 police officers in Petrópolis to speed up the identification and release of bodies, avoid price abuse and irregularities in the trade, and assist families of missing persons.

“The entire Civil Police is mobilized to comfort and minimize the emotional exhaustion of the family members, speeding up the release of the bodies so that they can be buried quickly”, he told the newspaper. CNN the administrative undersecretary of the Civil Police, Valéria Aragão.

The task force includes coroners, autopsy assistants, forensic experts, papilloscopists to make criminal identifications, police officers used to working with notaries and specialists from the consumer department to monitor overprice on products.

Police officers accustomed to working with missing persons were also summoned. In the forensic control center, a “lilac room” was set up to assist family members of the disappeared and people in a more critical situation. Two helicopters are in operation to transport experts, water, food, people at risk and also to search for the missing.

The police are working together with the judiciary, which is creating a task force to handle the work. Ronaldo Oliveira, operational undersecretary of the Civil Police, denied that the city had any incidents related to looting or trawling, information that circulated among city residents. He said there is no specific duration of the Petrópolis task force. “We’re only going to leave here when things are going on their own,” he told the CNN.
