This Thursday (21) the Federal Police carries out an operation against the bribery and money laundering in the city of Humaitá (AM), located about 700 kilometers from Manaus.
Among those investigated are a Civil Police delegate, a municipal secretary of Infrastructure and a lawyer. The PF carried out 11 search and seizure warrants and one for preventive arrest, issued against the police chief, who was arrested. Their names were not released.
The court orders were fulfilled simultaneously in the Amazonian cities of Manaus, Itacoatiara and Humaitá.
The objective of the operation is to dismantle the criminal scheme that diverted and sold seized goods by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), such as wood and cassiterite, and which were sent to the city’s Civil Police Station.
In the police unit, owners of seized shipments paid bribes through the lawyer targeted by the operation, part of which was intended for the investigated police officer.
According to the police, those involved, in addition to “deceiving” the Public Ministry and Justice, simulated sending the seizures to the Municipal Department of Works in Humaitá, in collusion with the secretary of the department.
The investigations pointed to the illegal sale of approximately three tons of cassiterite an ore used in the production of tin, which were also in the custody of the Civil Police.
The PF also states that the group used shell companies to hide the origin of illicit values. The scheme caused great damage to public property and the environment.
The court also ordered the kidnapping of approximately R$ 10 million in assets obtained by those investigated. Those involved will be responsible for the crimes of embezzlement, passive corruption and money laundering, with an additional sentence that can reach 34 years in prison .
