Civil Police grasp almost R $ 3 million in illegal seeds in RS

The Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police seized 384 tons of pirate seeds during an operation that began on Monday (19) and lasted until Thursday (22). The amount of the amount seized can reach almost $ 3 million.

According to police, the objective was to combat the clandestine marketing of pirate seeds and dismantle criminal networks that work in the distribution and sale of seeds without origin, without quality control and often without proper certification.

The actions took place in the municipalities of Soledade, Passo Fundo, Lagoa Vermelha, Foamos, Centenary, São João da Urtiga, Ibiraiaras and Guabiju.

In Passo Fundo, in a cerealist, 208 tons of pirate forage seeds were seized, valued at R $ 700 thousand.

In Ibiraiaras, 176 tons of pirate soy seeds were seized, valued at R $ 2.2 million. There was also a large amount of pesticides, deposited irregularly.

The seeds without origin were seized.

Speed establishments, according to police, claimed that the material was marketed as grain, but there is evidence that the practice was linked to seeds.

Predicted penalties are fines that vary according to the value of the product, from 41% to 80%, according to gravity.

“The counterfeit seeds not only economically damage the producer, causing billionaire damage to the sector across the country, but also bring a huge risk to plant health and sustainability of our crops and pastures,” said delegate Heleno dos Santos.

The Civil Police and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation reinforce producers to get seeds only from reliable sources, with invoice and certification.
