The Civil Police indicated the student of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) Vinícius Krug de Souza for nazism apology. In February, Krug introduced himself to the degree of degree in the Minas Engineering course with a swastika designed on his face. The inquiry was sent to the judiciary on Monday (7).
During the investigation, the UFRGS Security Coordinator and the university vice-rector, who was presiding over the ceremony, were heard. The student’s mother, his girlfriend and a friend also gave testimony.
In interrogation, the suspect denied that the swastika was a Nazi symbol, claiming that it was a Hindu swastika. He told police that he chose the symbol due to interest in Indian culture.
Delegate Tatiana Bastos, ahead of the investigation, concluded that, in addition to the symbol it is a “gamated cross”, a Hindu symbol appropriated by the Nazis, the other drawings on the student’s face also binds on Nazism, and their use by extremist groups is not uncommon. In addition, according to the police, Krug would have chosen for graduation a song that makes strong references to the apology for Nazism.
Computers and mobile phones were seized during the investigation and undergo expertise.
Apology for Nazism is a crime in Brazil, as provided by Law 7.716/89, and constitutes a serious violation of democratic principles and human rights, with a predicted penalty of up to 5 years imprisonment.
