A civil police officer who works at the Campo Grande Police Station (35th DP), in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, was arrested this Friday morning (12) for extortion, formation of militia and loan sharking.
A complaint that reached the Civil Police General Inspectorate (CGPOL) at the end of last month gave rise to the first phase of “Operation Efésios VI”.
According to investigations, the police officer tried to extort the amount of R$100,000 from a humble family based on a false report of a crime. According to the report, the agent and his accomplices went to the victims' residence and accused them of killing an elderly man, the owner of the house in which they were living. Investigations proved, however, that the man died of natural causes, in São Paulo.
Still according to the investigation carried out by the Internal Affairs Department, the criminals intimidated the residents and even forced the victims to sign a fictitious purchase and sale contract, and then tried to take their home.
In this Friday's action, which had the support of the Special Resources Coordination (CORE), the agents served a preventive arrest warrant against the police officer and two search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to him, in the Guaratiba and Campo Grande neighborhoods, in west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
Investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the criminal organization.
This is the seventh action by CGPOL in less than six months of management by the current administration of the Rio Civil Police Secretariat.
