Clash involving 14 vehicles leaves one dead and eight injured in PR

A pileup involving 14 vehicles left one person dead and eight injured, this Thursday morning (10), on the BR-277 highway, in the municipality of Balsa Nova, about 50 kilometers from Curitiba (PR).

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF) of Paraná, the team was called around 7 am to respond to two accidents at kilometer 143 of the road. One of the incidents occurred due to heavy fog and left no injuries.

“Due to this accident, vehicles coming from the São Luís do Purunã toll center towards the interior had to reduce their speed. Some stopped on the road and as a result, some were unable to brake and collided”, explained the head of Operations at the PRF Police Station in Ponta Grossa.

Also according to the head of operations, among these vehicles, a car driven by a 57-year-old woman was also unable to brake and collided with the back of another truck, causing death.


Furthermore, the PRF stated that the accident also left eight victims, four with serious injuries. Around 7am, a huge traffic jam reached the capital Curitiba.

Until the last update from the Federal Highway Police, due to the oil spill, the track was closed with no plans for reopening.
