Clash of factions over territory leads to shooting and bus burning in Rio

Groups of rival factions had an armed confrontation in the early hours of this Friday (16), in the communities of Pedreira and Lagartixa, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the State Secretariat of Military Police, the confrontation began due to a territorial dispute.

Police officers from the 41st Military Police Battalion (BPM), in Irajá, were informed of the criminals' actions and were on site to stabilize the area.

In addition to the armed confrontation, a bus, on line 800, from the company Vera Cruz, managed by Semove, the concessionaire responsible for intercity public transport in Rio de Janeiro, was attacked and set on fire.

“This year alone, five buses have already been set on fire as a result of violent acts in the state of Rio,” Semove told CNN .

“The lack of insurance for this type of loss makes investment in fleet renewal unfeasible and directly harms the population”, he concluded.

The Military Police (PM) also confirmed to the CNN strengthening policing in the region. When contacted, the Civil Police did not comment on a possible investigation until the publication of this article.
