At least one Azeri soldier was killed and three Armenians were injured in clashes between the two countries.
Armed clashes regularly occur between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops, despite a ceasefire agreed in November 2020, ending the six-week war for control of Nagorno-Karabakh.
“An Azeri soldier was killed (…) after provocations by the Armenian armed forces at the border,” the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.
The incident took place in the Kelbajar border area, near Karabakh.
Armenia, for its part, spoke of fire and drone strikes against its positions on the border. The fire continued until late at night and three soldiers were injured, according to Yerevan.
On Monday, pro-Armenian authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh claimed that four civilians had been fired upon by Azeri soldiers while carrying out agricultural work. The “fierce fire” continued for about 15 minutes, until the intervention of the soldiers of the Russian peacekeeping force, which deployed in this area after the 2020 ceasefire.
Authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh also said a village in the Martuni area had been bombed and a car destroyed. No casualties were reported.
Azerbaijan denies bombing the village.
The Azeri armed forces on Saturday accused Armenia of hitting their positions in the Kelbajar region with rockets and large-caliber missiles.
The 2020 war, in which more than 6,500 people lost their lives, ended with the defeat of Armenia, which was forced to cede to Azerbaijan many areas around Nagorno-Karabakh.
