And yesterday, April 4, GMC representatives presented an updated version of the classic off-road Hummer – on electric power plants, of course, with high ground clearance and a two-piece body. However, there are not so many differences from the pickup – the manufacturer clearly decided to unify production in order to reduce the cost of production models.
A clear difference between the models can be seen only in the back, where the pickup, which is not surprising, has an open side, while the SUV has a fifth door with a spare wheel there. At the same time, what is interesting, regardless of the choice of model, the user receives a removable roof as a bonus – the panels can be easily removed by placing them in the front trunk (where the engine of the ICE car has a motor, the electric car has a lot of free space). But “under the hood” the models have much more differences, and some of them look rather strange. For example, an SUV is equipped with a less capacious battery, which boasts a shorter range – only 480 kilometers, while a pickup truck can travel about 560 kilometers on a single charge.
In addition, in the top configuration, the owners of the Hummer EV get a 1014-horsepower electric power plant, while the SUV does not have this option – it gets only 842 horsepower in the “top”. On the other hand, the new model will be able to fight off its value with the ability to drive off-road – with the Extract Mode option, the ground clearance reaches 404 millimeters, which is enough to drive through the most difficult locations where a pickup truck would not be able to drive as much as it wanted. And for a top-end configuration without additional options like mud tires and additional view cameras, the user will need to pay only 105 thousand dollars – this is relatively affordable by the standards of the electric car market.
And it is the top-end configuration that the manufacturer plans to sell already in 2023, while an intermediate version with a cost of $ 90 thousand will be presented at the end of 2023 (simpler electric motors with 634 horsepower). The company also has plans to present the most affordable version of the SUV with a cost of $ 80,000, but this will only happen in 2024. In the database, the user will receive a spring suspension, a simpler power plant and 400 kilometers on a single charge.
