Per Claudia Potenza the numbers, especially the odd ones, have a meaning that is not only symbolic, but vital. She was 3 when she told her mother that she would be an actress when she grew up; 15 when she thought to herself that she was no longer a teenager but a woman; 21 when he won the audition for Police District, and 29 when he had Gabriel, his first son. “Numbers are important in my life” says Potenza on the phone while he is in the car, proving to be the emblem of the most absolute multitasking: shortly afterwards he will reach his yoga school and immediately afterwards he will bring his son back to take him to home.
«I move between children and work trying to find time for well-being, otherwise I don’t know where to get the energies, “he resumes, describing yoga as a” natural psychotropic drug “on which there is still a taboo to be defeated.
“It’s not witchcraft. It is natural that a mantra can help, otherwise how do you clear your mind? For example, prayer also helps a lot “explains Claudia, who we follow every Sunday on TV in the second season of The Company of the Swan, the popular Raiuno fiction written and directed by Ivan Cotroneo which sees her play the role of Nicoletta, the mother of Sofia and Scheggia who has entered the hearts not only of the public over, but also of that of adolescents. “It is a project that I will be linked to forever. When we were teenagers we didn’t have this attention to them, the thirty-year-olds told each other more. Now the situation has changed, but we must be careful not to overdo it: if a story is beautiful, it is just beautiful, and I, as a spectator, am also interested in looking at the stories of the forties, fifties and sixties ».
What teenager were you?
«I dreamed of turning 15, not 18. Don’t ask me why: I don’t know either. They were turbulent years, also because in that period I lost one of my best friends, Giancarlo, in an accident. It was the time of my first crush, the one in which parents went away for a few weekends to accompany my sister to Rome to the singing school ».
And what did she do at home alone?
“I used to call my friends to sleep. Sometimes we made a bit of a mess, but nothing special: my sister has always been very quiet and I, next to her, seemed to be the rebel on duty, but it wasn’t like that. I was lively, I liked to go out, but I think my mother always saw me as an alien ».
When did the acting thing arrive?
«I was born there: when I was 3 I told my mother that I wanted to become an actress. My sister as a child said that she wanted to be an opera singer and she succeeded: we were born with these desires ».
And you did it.
«Yes, even if at 9 I had questioned myself: could I become an actress even having a happy family? I read these stories of great and very tormented divas and I feared that, following that path, it would not be possible to find love ».
But she clung to her passion. What are you clinging to today?
«We must be careful not to just cling, though: the goal of practices such as yoga and prayer is well-being, centering oneself as a person. If you just rely on it you will always be moved and, as soon as you miss something, you will fall. No one has ever changed rationally, which is why I don’t believe so much in analysis only “head-on” ».
Is it difficult for you to carve out these moments for yourself?
“It’s not easy, but yes. I try to take advantage of the morning, before my daughter wakes up ».
During the lockdown, how long did you miss not engaging in these activities?
«The first lockdown allowed me to find some things about myself and build others. In general I have rediscovered a great reflection ».
A reflection accompanied by work and returning to the set.
“Cinema and TV have found a square, while the theater, with great pain, has yet to recover”.
Do you have dreams for the future?
«Looking for the beauty of any age. The other day my friend Antonia Truppo wrote a beautiful post about Frances McDormand, one of my favorite actresses: it would be nice if even in Italy the 60-year-old artists were offered super-star roles. I would like to see a country that responds to talent and not to approval. I know that sometimes the environment is not comfortable and you have to force yourself, but I want to believe that this change can happen as soon as possible, with our girls already there to experience it and welcome it ».
