Cleaning of tunnels and wells is completed 3 months after accident in São Paulo subway work

The São Paulo Metro Line 6-Orange concessionaire, Linha Uni, announced this Wednesday (4) that it has concluded the cleaning of the wells and tunnels affected by the incident that opened a crater on Marginal Tietê in February this year.

According to the company, repairs and assembly of the tatuzões, large machines that operate with the aim of facilitating the construction of subway tunnels, are also underway, “with the replacement of electronic, hydraulic and metallic parts”.

“Excavations will resume once assembly and repairs are complete. Work on other work fronts has not been interrupted,” the statement added.

At the time, Acciona, which is building the new subway line, endorsed the information also released by Sabesp that the accident occurred due to a “breakage of a sewage collector near the VSE Aquinos (Ventation Well and Emergency Exit)”.

The collapse of the work left an open crater on one of the main roads in the capital of São Paulo for three days. At the end of March, the last lanes of the Marginal Tietê local lane still closed were released to cars.

The state Public Ministry opened an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.

The line 6-Orange project, also known as the University Line for connecting several higher education institutions in the capital, is 15 km long and will have 15 stations, connecting the districts of Brasilândia, in the north zone, and the São Joaquim, in the central region of the city of São Paulo.

The planned stations are Brasilândia, Vila Cardoso, Itaberaba, João Paulo I, Freguesia do Ó, Santa Marina, Água Branca, Sesc Pompeia, Perdizes, PUC-Cardoso de Almeida, Angélica/Pacaembu, Higienópolis/Mackenzie, 14 Bis, Bela Vista and Saint joaquim.
