Click farms: understand what they are and how they work

For content creators, the need to get engagement It is vital when it comes to closing publishing contracts and winning over sponsors. However, these metrics do not always come naturally, as today it is possible to hire click farms to generate those followers and views .

Discovered recently, these ventures were compared to Silicon Valley because they involve a huge number of computers, cell phones and people who generate clicks manually or through lines of code.

What are?

Click farms can be large structures, with many employees and equipment, as well as a single person with a computer and some cell phones. The location generates internet traffic and offers various engagement “services” on websites and social networks.

A Check Essentials, a digital security company, lists some of the products as: obtaining followers and likes on social networks; comments on websites or social networks; generating traffic for websites; backlink creation (creating website authority through referrals from others); forwarding traffic to fraudulent websites to improve your rankings, domain authority, or to collect payments on display ads; sharing fake news; between others.

The greater the need for manual work, the more expensive the services. “Basic” functionalities such as generating likes and comments on social networks can be done by botscodes that can click on these fields automatically.

These farms have already been found in countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, in both large and small formats.

Pay-to-Click Sites

In addition to working directly in environments where clicks are generated en masse, remote workers also participate in this business. In the structure of Pay-to-Click (PTC) sites, people receive payment for clicking on advertisements and links that lead to other online addresses.

These pages are just made to generate engagement for ads and traffic to news sites and blogs, for example. With these hits, the pages build greater authority on the internet and are better ranked in search engines.

Through research carried out by Cheq Essencials, it was discovered that during 2020 PTC sites paid more than US$13 million to remote workers to generate clicks. Many of the employees were paid around $10 for generating hundreds of engagements per day.
