Being a woman and working in a “male-dominated” environment is a difficult but not impossible challenge, since daily they are forced to deal with sexist comments, distrust of men, the salary gap, among other situations.
Proof of this is the story of the Reddit user @unlimitedpatience, who in a thread recounted the unpleasant situations that she has faced as an auto mechanic, how her work is often questioned unlike that of her colleagues and how it has come to be despised for the simple fact of being a woman.
But that’s not all, she also narrated how grateful she feels for the life lessons, for the people who value her performance and for the motivation that accompanies her to achieve her achievements despite the misogynistic comments and attitudes of some people.

Many years ago, I worked at a car dealership. The attached utility garage was small and I was the only licensed mechanic.
I tried not to deal directly with customers to avoid problems and often had my apprentice bring cars to and from the store for me. One morning in particular, we were busy. The valet and the apprentice were busy washing cars for deliveries and driving to customers’ homes.
The service consultant left a work order and keys on the parts table, and I went out to get the car into the shop. It had been brought in for review, an update that is done with a scan tool and takes 10 minutes.
The client wanted to wait. When he saw me with his keys in hand, he immediately stood up and I missed the following conversation, which according to the service advisor (who is also a woman), went like this:
‘Client: Who is the girl, will she work on my pussy? I don’t want her to work on it.
Adviser: The other technician is missing at this time, so you will have to wait until someone else can check your car.
Customer: Okay. I’ll wait for a boy. I don’t want that girl to touch my car.
Advisor: Got it. ‘
The advisor came to let me know, so I got the car out and left the work order and keys back on the table. I was puzzled.
Half an hour passed. The apprentice still hadn’t come back and I was happily working on something else, moving cars in and out. The client observed each of the people entering and leaving.
Customer: ‘I have been sitting here for over an hour and I have seen five cars that entered before mine. My shift was 8:00 am This is ridiculous. ‘
The advisor explained that the other men were busy at work and insisted again that I could do the job, but the man asked to speak to the manager on duty.
Manager: ‘She is my best technique. The boys here take orders from her. You can wait until you finish what you are doing to ask if you are still willing to do your job or can you take your car elsewhere. ‘
The man was quite upset, took the keys and took his car. I don’t think I will ever request our service again. But I want to emphasize that that manager always defended and stood on my side. The advisor did the same. They were a great team that allowed me to develop and show the world that women can too.
