President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) addressed the international community this Wednesday (16) during COP27, which takes place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. He guaranteed that, in his government, the climate agenda will be a priority and agribusiness will be a “strategic ally”.
Lula defended the generation of wealth without changing the climate and the responsible exploitation of the Amazon’s biodiversity.
“We are going to prove that it is possible to promote economic growth and social inclusion with nature as a strategic ally and no longer an enemy to be beaten by bulldozers or chainsaws”, he said.
The president-elect stated that “agricultural production without environmental balance must be considered a past action”.
“The goal we are going to pursue is balanced production, sequestering carbon, protecting our immense biodiversity, seeking soil regeneration in all our biomes, and increasing income for farmers and ranchers”, he stated.
“I am sure that Brazilian agribusiness will be a strategic ally of our government in the search for regenerative and sustainable agriculture, with investment in science, technology and education in the countryside, valuing the knowledge of indigenous peoples and local communities”, he added.
