Climate change, 8 out of 10 young people are worried

Climate change does not leave them indifferent. Indeed, it worries them: eight out of ten young people, aged 15 to 35, in 23 European countries, are alarmed by the environmental issue. This was reported by a survey conducted by Ipsos between 29 October and 19 November 2020, as part of the “Dear” program (Development Education and Awareness Raising), which aims to develop awareness and critical understanding of migration induced by climate change as one of the greatest challenges of the globalized world.

Among the under 24, girls are the most concerned. There are fewer than one in ten deniers: l’8%.

Almost half of the respondents consider climate change to be one of the most serious problems for the planet, even in the midst of the pandemic. In second place, according to the young people in the sample, is environmental degradation. Only for 13%, in first place, there is “large-scale migration”.

Tomorrow, Thursday 22 April, on the occasion of Earth Day, the project co-financed by the European Commission will be launched, “End Climate Change, Start Climate of Change», Which will involve 13 European countries and 26 realities, led by the Italian association WeWorld. In the next two years, initiatives will be developed to encourage young people’s commitment to a more sustainable lifestyle and to create a movement with the aim of supporting global climate justice.
