It is a fact that children and adolescents are much more sensitive than adult generations to the issue of climate change and protecting the planet. This is also demonstrated by research conducted under the scientific supervision of Health Psychology Laboratory of the Department of Nervous System and Behavioral Sciences of theUniversity of Pavia which highlighted how the new generations feel strictly connected to the environment (in 78% of cases) and that their approach to the phenomenon of climate change it is not passive but, on the contrary, characterized by a strong sense of responsibility and motivation to act.
Not only that. According to the psychotherapist Alberto Pellaia developmental age expert interviewed by Vanity Fair, children of the third millennium find themselves in a daily life full of emergencies, including the threats of crazy weather, and often transform their fears into nocturnal dreams of eco-anxiety which cause sudden awakenings and requests to be hugged and comforted.
With these assumptions, the educational campaign – sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security – takes on a dual value Generation Carbon, guide to climate change, promoted byGeneration Carbon Associationin collaboration with Sorgeniaand developed and operated by Neways, communications company specializing in educational projects.
In the 2024-25 school year it will involve approximately 33 thousand male and female students from 7 to 14 years old, of primary and secondary schools throughout the national territory, with the aim of informing and bringing young people closer to the problem of climate change. Generation Carbon: a guide to climate change in fact, it aims to explain to boys and girls what carbon, fossil fuels, the greenhouse effect are and what impact they have on the climate, as well as guide them towards a more conscious and sustainable use of natural resources.
«I dream that all girls and boys, all boys and girls can be taught in schools of all levels what Climate Change is, what consequences it can have on our beautiful Earth, but above all on our quality of life and what we can all do together to combat it,” he said Barbara Orsi, president of Generation Carbon. «And while this will remain a dream for the moment, we at Generation Carbon try to do our part so that it becomes less and less a dream and more and more a reality for as many male and female students as possible».
To carry out the project, students and teachers will have a digital teaching kit, a detailed classroom guide, teaching suggestions, certificates of participation and a board game to learn while having fun. Not only that: the educational path also includes a training meeting in presence in the schools participating in the initiative, in which trainers and experts will meet young people to closely address the delicate and complex issue of climate change. The project can be used thanks to the dedicated website www.generationcarbonperlescuole.it, from which it is possible to download the teaching materials and find all the information on the project and on participation in a special Class Contest dedicated to the classes participating in the initiative. In fact, among all the documents they will be identified 4 winning classes taking into account the ability to rework the contents learned, the relevance to the track and the difficulty of implementation and each selected class will win 1 rich kit with teaching material useful for students and for the school provided by the company Favini.
