Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Massoud Pezheskian signed a 20-year strategic partnership treaty today that includes closer defense cooperation, which may alarm the West. Pezheskian, in his first visit to the Kremlin since assuming the presidency last July, hailed the signing as an important new chapter in the two countries’ relations, while Putin said Moscow and Tehran share many of the same views on international affairs . “This (treaty) creates better conditions for bilateral cooperation in all areas,” Putin said, highlighting the positives for economic relations and trade, which he said is mainly conducted in the two countries’ currencies. “More action” promises Putin “We need less bureaucracy and more concrete action.
