Clube Militar do RJ announces a lecture that questions the efficacy of vaccines

The Clube Militar of Rio de Janeiro is inviting members to participate in a lecture called “Sanitary Passport – adverse events of vaccines against COVID-19 and the risks to national security.” The event will be given by doctor Maria Emília Gadelha Serra, next Thursday (9). The information is available on the entity’s official website.

“In this delicate moment that we are experiencing, it is necessary to stay informed, and this agenda is extremely important, and it is worth reflecting and putting all the pros and cons in the balance”, highlights an excerpt from the publication on the Clube Militar page.

TO CNN, the Military Club informed that it will not manifest itself. The Ministry of Defense, on the other hand, replied that the Military Club is formed by retired soldiers and, therefore, it is not up to the Ministry of Defense to comment on the fact. THE CNN also questioned the Ministry of Health, but received no response. The Federal Council of Medicine and the Regional Council of Medicine said they will not comment on the case. THE CNN he also got in touch with the clinic of the doctor Maria Emília Gadelha and did not get a return.

Physician Maria Emília Gadelha graduated from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with a residency in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of São Paulo (USP). On social networks, the specialist’s posts emphasize the professional’s position against the health passport. In July, the doctor was received at Planalto Palace by President Jair Bolsonaro, when he handed him a document on the risks of vaccines, classified by her as “injectable experimental products”.

In a video published four days ago on her profile, Maria Emília speaks at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (ALESP) with a presentation called “Sanitary Passport: a question of health, social control or a mega banking operation?”. At the beginning of the lecture, the doctor stated that the HPV vaccine is “another garbage”, and that “unfortunately, we already have the vaccination of children from nine to thirteen years old almost mandatory in the public health system in that country, and that it is another poison that needs to be canceled”.

For the infectious disease physician, and president of the Society of Infectious Diseases of Rio de Janeiro, Tania Vergara, only two reasons can explain the event: lack of knowledge or anti-vaccination.

“I can’t understand how someone claims to be a doctor and is against the vaccine. It is beyond my ability to understand. Vaccines are the greatest progress in fighting disease in the history of the world. There is no such thing as controlling the spread of diseases as much as vaccination,” says Tania Vergara.

also to CNN, UFRJ epidemiologist Celso Ramos, stated that the lecture will only bring ‘denialist, retrograde and obscurantist’ guidelines on the Covid-19 pandemic. And, according to him, next week’s meeting will only serve to cause more misinformation among Brazilians.

“The guidelines addressed at this event will be strictly denial, retrograde and obscurantist. I think it’s serious to disseminate this type of information. One thing is certain, this wind will not bring any benefit to the public”, he points out.

All vaccines applied in Brazil were approved by Anvisa and have proven efficacy against severe forms of Covid-19. Pfizer’s vaccine is 95% effective after the second dose against mild cases; that of AstraZeneca/Oxford, 70.4%; Coronavac, 50.38% and Janssen, 73.6%.
