Christmas sales should move R$ 65 billion in Brazil, according to the projection of the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). If the result materializes, it will be the first real increase, of 1.2% in revenue, already discounting inflation, after two years of declines (-2.8% in 2020 and -2.1% in 2021).
In addition to retail betting on good results due to the end of restrictions against Covid-19, the improvement in the economic situation is another highlighted point. If families have a higher percentage of their income committed to debt and credit is more expensive, on the other hand, the country registers an evolution in the labor market and the deceleration of inflation.
About R$ 25 billion of expected revenue (38.6%) should go to the hyper and supermarket segment. Another R$ 22 billion (33.9%) should be allocated to clothing, footwear and accessories stores. In addition, the segment of articles for personal and domestic use should pocket R$ 8.19 billion (12.6%).
Regarding the distribution of these resources by state, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro lead, with R$ 22.19 billion, R$ 5.59 billion and R$ 5.56 billion, respectively. That is, the three add up to more than half (51.3%) of the expected movement.
In the case of higher sales projections, the ranking has Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal District ahead, with 6.8% and 6.2%.
Despite being the first Christmas with an expectation of real growth after two years, revenues should still be below the period prior to the coronavirus pandemic, when transactions were R$ 67.55 billion in 2019.
Given this scenario, the CNC adjusted the forecast for temporary vacancies for Christmas. 98.9 thousand hires are expected, an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous year and 48% more than in 2020. In the previous projection of the entity, there were 109.6 thousand vacancies.
Following the same billing logic, most admissions must take place in hyper and supermarkets, with 42.20 thousand (43%), followed by the clothing, footwear and accessories segment, with 22.42 thousand (23%), and sales establishments and articles for personal and domestic use 13.72 thousand (14%).
The CNC also pointed out that Brazilians are importing more Christmas products, even with the recent devaluation of the real against the dollar.
“According to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat, imports of typically Christmas products between September and November 2022 (US$ 468.9 million) grew 8% compared to the same period of 2021 (US$ 436.1 million), reaching the highest volume since 2014 ($487.9 million). In relation to last Christmas, the values imported from perfumery items (+167%) and oilseeds (+35%) stood out”, points out the survey.
