CNC predicts the creation of 673 thousand jobs in the service sector by the end of the year

Concentrating 62.5% of this year’s formal job vacancies, the service sector expects to create another 673,000 jobs by the end of 2022, according to a forecast by the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). Education, food and accommodation companies should pull the result.

Data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged), from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, released last Tuesday (28), show that the country has a balance of 1,051,503 vacancies until the month of May, with 658,112 in the sector. services.

Fábio Bentes, economist at CNC, points out that the growth in the number of people employed in the service sector has been above the average for all activities. In the accumulated result for the year through May, services registered an increase of 3.47%, while the general national average was 2.69%.

“What is behind this movement? First, this effect of resumption, of reestablishing the level of circulation of people at the pre-pandemic level. The service sector is heavily dependent on circulation. Another important point is the behavior of prices. Taking into account the IPCA-15 of June, services inflation is at 9.04% in the 12-month period, while the general inflation is at 12.04%”, he added.

Of the 673,000 formal jobs that CNC expects by the end of the year, 190,000 are in tourism, which has not yet reached the same rates as in the period before Covid-19. In the first seven months of the pandemic, tourism lost 526,000 jobs. From October 2020 to date, only 290,000 have been recovered.

According to Bentes, the calculations for 2022 also include temporary vacancies, which begin to open in November for the holidays and parties. However, the economic scenario in the second half of the year should impose more challenges.

“The trend is that it starts to generate a little less vacancies in the monthly average, in the second half of the year. Because inflation in services will soon tend to be above 10%, which will probably put a brake on this recovery. And it also has the highest interest rate environment. Some services depend on the interest rate, such as airline tickets”, he pondered.

Despite the drop in the average starting salary in the Brazilian labor market, which was R$ 1,898.02 in May, a reduction of R$ 18 in relation to the previous month, the initial income of the service sector remains among the highest of the economic activities: R$ 2,030.66.

According to data from Caged published this week, in May, Brazil registered a positive balance of 277,018 formal jobs. Services led the ranking, with 120,294 posts, followed by commerce (47,557), industry (46,975), construction (35,445) and agriculture (26,747).
