CNH Digital: new function allows transferring ownership and carrying out transactions

The application Digital Transit Wallet, or Digital CNH, has a new functionality for drivers. In a digital way, Brazilians will be able to carry out vehicle purchase and sale transaction and transfer ownership of an automobilewithout the need to notarize or sign a paper contract.

The facility is available to owners and future owners of vehicles with documents issued from January 4, 2021, the date on which the old Documento Único de Transfer (DUT) was replaced by the digital version, ATPV-e.

However, for now, only eight states can make the purchase and sale transaction: Acre, Ceará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte and Roraima.

In order for owners to be able to use the new functionality, state Detrans must adhere to the system.

In the transaction, the buyer and seller communicate the sale and sign the authorization for the transfer of ownership using only the application. Afterwards, the owner just needs to go to the local traffic department to carry out the inspection and transfer the vehicle.

According to the National Traffic Secretary, Frederico Carneiro, the procedure is agile and practical. “This process is done with the greatest security, with requirements for biometric validation, facial recognition, to bring security to this transaction”, he assured.

“There are 14 million purchases and sales in the country per year, so the potential of what we are launching here today is revolutionary. It is to democratize access to public service which, as of today, is no longer tied to recognition, authentication, business hours”, says the executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio.

“How many here can buy a vehicle during the week?”, he asks.

The functionality had its first version launched in August 2021. It allowed the sale of vehicles by individuals, in a 100% digital way, to commercial establishments integrated with the National Registry of Vehicles in Stock (Renave).
