The reporter of the CNN Brazil Isadora Aires was harassed on Sunday morning (08) during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an event that brings together conservative thought leaders this weekend in Balneário Camboriú, on the coast of Santa Catarina.
Professional Isadora Aires was inside the convention center, in a wing adjacent to the stage, preparing to go live on the program, when she was surrounded by people participating in the event.
Shouting “trash” and “get out”, those present intimidated the reporter, who was forced to leave the venue escorted by event security.
When leaving the building, the journalist needed help from military police officers who were providing security in the external area.
The reporter, who was accredited to cover the event and met all the event requirements, had to leave the premises and be taken to a safe location.
CPAC was founded in the United States in 1974 and was brought to Brazil in 2019 by federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. This year, the event will take place at the Expocentro in Balneário Camboriú.
Speakers at the event include Jair Bolsonaro, Javier Milei (President of Argentina), Guilherme Derrite (former Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo); Eduardo Bolsonaro (Federal Deputy), Nikolas Ferreira (Federal Deputy), Jorginho Mello (Governor of Santa Catarina), Julia Zanatta (Federal Deputy), Caroline de Toni (Federal Deputy), among others.

Note from CNN Brazil
During the CPAC event in Santa Catarina, CNN reporter Isadora Aires was harassed by protesters while carrying out her professional duties and had to be removed from the location and taken to a safe environment. Isadora Aires is a serious professional and has been reporting the events of the event for two days in an accurate and balanced manner. She received the full support of the company’s management. CNN Brasil considers this type of attitude a threat to democracy and freedom of expression and will not be intimidated in providing its coverage, which is nonpartisan and without ideological bias.
Wanted by CNN the CPAC board of directors issued a statement saying that it “vehemently repudiates any and all forms of aggression against press professionals.” Read the full statement sent by CPAC below:
“The leadership of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) vehemently repudiates any and all forms of aggression against press professionals. CPAC is a democratic space and its principle is to guarantee freedom of expression to all.”
